Simply by relaxing on Aleenta’s peaceful stretch of beautiful beachfront, guests participate in a greater conservation effort. A part of the donations were used to purchase two GPS tracking devices, which will be mounted on two sea turtles to track their journey through the Andaman sea for scientific research purposes. 3 – 2 - 1 – GO !
Monday, 28th December 2009 Our two GPS equipped turtles are ready to go! Marine turtles roamed this planet prior to the dinosaurs with evidence suggesting they date back over 150 million years! Thailand is home to four species of marine turtles, the Leatherback, the Olive Ridley, the Hawksbill and the Green Turtle, all of which are severely threatened by over development and over fishing. The Leatherback Marine Turtle, the world's largest living reptile, has been listed as globally endangered since 1970, and was confirmed as "Critically Endangered in Thailand" in 1996. The turtle population is dramatically decreasing. In response, the founder and owner of Aleenta, Anchalika Kijkanakorn established the Aleenta Marine Turtle Fund (AMTF) 3 years ago to support local turtle repopulation, rehabilitation and education. Protecting these majestic creatures is not merely a gesture but a very rewarding lifetime commitment to the environment that Aleenta is proud to be a part of. Guests today have the opportunity to effortlessly enhance the natural surroundings for years to come – simply by indulging in guilt-free luxury at Aleenta. |
