The Bay Regatta

The Bay Regatta - Phang Nga - Aleenta Phuket Resort & Spa

Each year, we look forward to one of the most spirited and visually stunning sailing events in Thailand — The Bay Regatta. It’s more than a race; it’s a celebration of adventure, camaraderie, and the incredible natural beauty of our coastline here in Phang Nga and Phuket. As a boutique beach resort nestled on the quiet shores of Natai Beach, we’re fortunate to have front-row access to one of the most picturesque regattas in Asia.

A Unique Experience on the Water

There’s something wonderfully relaxed about The Bay Regatta. It’s not just for hardened racers — this is an event where seasoned sailors, holiday cruisers, and newcomers alike come together to enjoy four days of spirited sailing across one of the world’s most photogenic stretches of water.

The regatta winds through Phang Nga Bay, past towering limestone islands, hidden lagoons and turquoise waters. It’s a rare opportunity to sail through scenery that feels cinematic — and for good reason. Iconic places, such as James Bond Island (Koh Tapu), form part of the route.

Sailing Through the Islands

The race begins in Phuket, then carries participants through a route that changes slightly each year. Recent editions have included overnight anchorages at Koh Yao Noi, Krabi, and Ao Nang. Days are spent on the water, with plenty of time to take in the views, while evenings are all about good food, open-air celebrations and relaxed company, whether on board or ashore.

Each stop offers something different, from peaceful stretches of sand to lively parties. Many guests choose to overnight in their boats, but others take the chance to enjoy local guesthouses or treat themselves to a stay at a beachside resort like Aleenta.

A Welcoming Regatta for All

This isn’t a closed-off competition. The Bay Regatta welcomes sailors from across the globe — including teams from Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and beyond. You’ll also find plenty of local enthusiasts and visitors who come purely to enjoy the spectacle. It’s not unusual to see families on deck, couples soaking up the views, or even complete beginners having their first taste of sailing.

The atmosphere is warm and friendly, with a shared appreciation for the sea and the setting. Whether you’re at the helm or enjoying the race from the shore, there’s something special about seeing colourful spinnakers fill the sky against the limestone cliffs of Phang Nga Bay.

The Bay Regatta in 2025

The 2025 Bay Regatta will take place in early February. Details and registration are available on the official site: www.bayregatta.com. If you’re planning to join us as a participant or want to enjoy the view from a comfortable distance, this is the perfect time of year to experience our region.

The race typically spans four days and covers some of Thailand’s most scenic sailing territory. Even if you’re not racing, the spectacle of sails on the horizon and the festive atmosphere at each anchorage make it a brilliant time to visit.
