Guardians of the Blue, Protecting the Future

For over 20 years, the Pure Blue Foundation has been AKARYN's commitment to responsible tourism, supporting marine and environmental conservation across Thailand. Founded the same day as AKARYN, it drove the group to become Thailand's first hotel group to eliminate single-use plastics. From coral restoration to community education, every initiative reflects one belief: the places we call home deserve our protection.

Continuing the Journey: Purpose Beyond the Classroom with Wellington College and Khao Pilao School

2025 (Aleenta Phuket-Phang Nga Resort & Spa)

For the second consecutive year, Aleenta Phuket and the Pure Blue Foundation were honoured to host a group of Year 10 students from Wellington College Bangkok, continuing a meaningful community partnership with Khao Pilai School. The visit was part of the students’ Bronze International Duke of Edinburgh Award and followed months of virtual English tutoring with their Khao Pilai peers. This year’s program deepened the connection through hands-on sustainability activities and cultural engagement. Highlights included a tree-planting session on the school grounds, creative play and learning with local students, and a collaborative beach clean-up inspired by an impactful sustainability workshop led by Michelle Mouille of the Sustainable Maikhao Foundation. Supported by dedicated faculty and parents, the initiative reflected a shared vision for youth empowerment, environmental action, and cross-cultural friendship. What began as online tutoring has now evolved into a living bridge between two communities—one rooted in compassion, sustainability, and a desire to make a lasting difference.

The visit included a hands-on beach cleanup and coral reef restoration activity that highlighted the students’ shared commitment to sustainability and community responsibility. At Khao Pilai School, the Wellington students painted a new dining area, engaged in games and creative activities with local children, and participated in a heartfelt cultural exchange during the school’s welcome ceremony. The event was honored by local education leaders and included a donation of computers and IT equipment by Khun Anchalika, founder of Pure Blue. Evenings at Aleenta provided the group with time to reflect and plan future collaborations aimed at supporting more rural schools. The weekend not only fostered global citizenship but also strengthened the bonds between both school communities in a shared spirit of learning and compassion.
