FAQ - Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai

Foothills of Doi Suthep - MICHELIN Key hotel - mindfulness, Vipassana and Lanna culture

Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai sits in the foothills of Doi Suthep in the Suthep area of Muang Chiang Mai, in a quiet residential setting close to the forest temple of Wat Umong. It is a peaceful, green location away from the busier parts of the city.

The retreat is reached via Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX), with a short transfer to the Doi Suthep foothills. The concierge can arrange a private transfer to coincide with your arrival.

The property's full name is Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai. It is the Northern Thailand member of the Aleenta family, with a focus on mindfulness and Northern Lanna culture.

Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai has around 44 rooms and suites, including one and two-bedroom pool villas and a four-bedroom golden teak wood residence with period furnishings and a private pool.

Dining centres on The Garden Restaurant, an open-air space wrapped around a reflection pool and courtyard, serving an award-winning menu of wellness cuisine alongside traditional Northern Thai “Lanna” and Western dishes.

There is also a tea room and a piano bar set within reclaimed golden teak structures.

The Garden Restaurant's menu was created by Chef Komkrich “Arm” Issarajinda, a third-generation Chiang Mai restaurateur, with an emphasis on sustainable, healthy cuisine that does not compromise on flavour. The menu includes vegetarian and vegan options.

At Chiang Mai, AYURAH's headline modality is mindfulness and Vipassana meditation, from beginner sessions through to more advanced monastic practice. Experiences include temple meditation, walking meditation and meditation with monks.

AYURAH is Aleenta's integrated wellness concept built on the “Middle Path” philosophy — it is not an Ayurveda brand, despite the name.

Alongside meditation, the programme includes Hatha yoga, breathwork, Qi Gong and Tai Chi, jungle walks and aquatic exercise. The setting in the Doi Suthep foothills lends itself to quiet, nature-based practice.

AYURAH Spa and Wellness Chiang Mai offers Lanna Massage, Thai Yoga Massage and Tibetan sound therapy, among other treatments, reflecting the Northern Thai location and the retreat's mindful focus.
