What the health assessment at AYURAH actually tests, and why

Most wellness retreats ask you how you feel. At AYURAH we also measure it. Every retreat at Aleenta Phuket–Phang Nga begins with a Health & Lifestyle Assessment before you travel and a consultation with our Wellness Director, a medical doctor, on your first or second day, and for guests who want to go further, a set of laboratory tests taken at the AYURAH clinic in the resort and read together during the stay. This is what those tests are, what each one tells us, and how the results change what you do for the rest of the week.

Before you arrive

The Health & Lifestyle Assessment is a questionnaire you complete at home. It covers your medical history, medication, sleep, digestion, energy through the day, how you eat and move, and what you would most like to be different when you leave. The Wellness Director reads it before you arrive, so your first days are planned, not improvised. If one of the tests below would help, it is suggested then, and the sample can be taken on your first morning.

The consultation

You meet the Wellness Director in the AYURAH clinic, which sits in the lobby at Aleenta Phuket–Phang Nga, for half an hour on your first or second day. Together you go through your assessment, your body composition analysis and, on stays of five nights or more, your Metabolic Breath Analysis. From that the shape of your retreat is set: how far your Light Detox cuisine goes, whether your movement sessions lean towards strength or recovery, how much rest the programme protects. Your retreat host carries that plan through the days and adjusts it with you. The consultation provides wellness guidance and does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment.

Body composition analysis

Included in every retreat. A bioelectrical impedance reading gives your body water, fat mass and fat-free mass. It is the baseline we measure against, during the stay and when you return.

Metabolic Breath Analysis

Included from five nights; available as an option on shorter stays. You breathe quietly into an analyser for a few minutes while the oxygen you take in and the carbon dioxide you give out are measured. The ratio between them shows which fuel your body is using at rest. A healthy metabolism uses fat as its main fuel during rest; if yours is running on carbohydrate, the meals and the movement sessions are set to shift that, and the change can be measured before you leave.

The Advanced Check Up

Optional, and recommended on The Healthy Living - Longevity Retreat, The Executive Peak Performance Retreat, the Pain Management Retreat and The Resilient Woman Retreat. A full blood panel: blood count, glucose and HbA1c, the lipid profile, liver and kidney markers, uric acid, hsCRP for inflammation, thyroid markers, and urinalysis. Samples are taken at the clinic and analysed by a certified external laboratory in Phuket; results are back within the stay. This is the test that shows whether what you feel has a metabolic cause the retreat can work on, and it gives you a report your own doctor can use.

The Micronutrient Profile

Optional, and recommended on the Longevity, Detox & Renewal and Deep Reset retreats. Vitamins A, B9, B12, C, D and E, coenzyme Q10, carotenoids, zinc, selenium, magnesium and other minerals and trace elements, and ferritin. Low vitamin D, low B12 and low ferritin are common findings in guests who arrive tired, and each one changes what goes on your plate. On a detox retreat this profile matters twice over: it shows what to put back as well as what to take away.

The Female Hormonal Assessment

Optional, and recommended on The Resilient Woman Retreat. LH, FSH, estradiol, progesterone, free testosterone, DHEA-S, SHBG and prolactin, read together with your cycle history and symptoms. It gives a clear picture of where you are in the perimenopausal transition and lets the retreat's nutrition, movement and rest be set to it.

What happens with the results

The Wellness Director sits down with you and goes through every line. You keep the full laboratory report, and the plan you agree is written into your departure wellness pack, so that what you started here continues at home. A test is only useful if it changes something; that is why the results are read inside the retreat, while there is still time to act on them.

What is included and what the tests cost
